October 2009, Matt Bell played his first round of disc golf at DeLaveaga in Santa Cruz, CA. Along with surfing, disc golf quickly became his other daily obsession. After volunteering for the 2011 world championships he found the tournament scene. With the guidance of the local club members he applied for a PDGA membership signing up for the Masters Cup in May, 2011 as an Amateur.
After carding an 8 on his second hole of the tournament he made a 45 footer on the last to secure his first and only Win as an Amateur. In Half a season playing Advanced Matt placed 2nd at the state championships only to win the Motherload "NorCal Title" the following weekend. When the next ratings update came out he went from 950 to 986. The following day he called the Tournament Director to move him to Open for the next event(Frying Pan in Stockton, CA). After carding an incredible tournament Ace he tied for 1st place in Open. From there he would move back to his hometown to help build what would be his training grounds "Silva Acres" in Nevada City, CA.
2014 saw Matt winning very high profile events in NorCal. This caught the attention of fellow NorCal native Gregg Barsby.
Gregg proceeded to take Matt on a 3 month tour ending with Matt winning his first A tier event at the King of the Lake (Lake Tahoe, CA).
Matt has toured fulltime since. Meeting thousands of incredible people, making friendships and memories to last a lifetime along the way. Gregg Barsby would go on to win the World Championships in 2018 (Stowe, Vermont.)
Matt hasn't done too bad either. Winning high profile A tiers year after year. Along with a Putting(2016) and Doubles(2018) World Title, he won his first National Tour event in 2019. (check out the stats section)
Will Bell continue to trend upwards? As the Birdies get easier and the bogeys get harder to find. Will we find Matt Bell contending the leaderboard again or breaking through it and smashing course records? Only time will tell as the 2021 season ramps up.
